Doris Henrickson
5/1/1942 - 5/7/2022

Doris Henrickson passed away on May 7, 2022, after a brief illness at a hospital in Mesa Arizona. She spent her final days surrounded by her family who loved her very much.

She celebrated Mother’s Day in heaven this year with her son, Gordon, and grandson, James Schaeppi, who preceded her in death. Doris is survived by her soul mate and husband of 63 years Jerry, son Ken (Deb), and daughters Lynda Schaeppi (Scott) and Julie Nicholson (Kevin), 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Doris was born May 1, 1942, in Pierre, South Dakota. Although Doris was small in stature, she had the heart of a lion and the spirit of a Viking.

She was introduced to Jerry in Ft. Pierre, South Dakota in 1958 by her sister. There was an immediate connection and at a next day trip to the roller rink, Jerry fell head over heels for her. Throughout their marriage Jerry thought he chose Doris, but recently found out she chose him.

Her perseverance and steadfastness served her well throughout her life. As a very young mother, she lovingly raised her children while Jerry served in the Army during their early married years. The sacrifices she made, and hardship she endured, provided her grateful children with treasured memories.

Doris became a licensed hairdresser and eventually owned her own salon in St. Paul, Minnesota, at time when women-owned businesses were uncommon. Her strong work ethic, tenacity, and natural talent ensured her success.

Doris was a beautiful person inside and out and spent her life making the world a better place. Between hairdressing, gardening, interior decorating, and her magical Christmas wonderlands, Doris spread splendor. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Kathleen Virginia Smith
03/24/1951 - 05/07/2022

The world’s biggest Beatles fan, Kathleen (Kathy) Virginia Smith, began her eternal journey “Across the Universe” when “She Got Her Ticket to Ride” in Mesa, Arizona  on May 7th, 2022, surrounded by HER biggest fans, her family:  husband, Garrett Smith, children, Rob Divine (Hattie), Laura Rodgers (Harry), Jessica Carruthers (Scott), Samantha Rogers (Chance), and Kyle Smith.  She will also be missed by her siblings, Ronald Brown, Lorry Divine, and Kenny Brown, Red Bluff, CA. Kathy was our own personal “Lady Madonna” with five children at her feet, as well as 14 grandchildren, and 3 fur babies (dogs) who she loved dearly. They were her world, and she, theirs. Kathy could always “Take a sad song, and make it better” just with her smile and kindness.

Kathy was born on March 24, 1951 to Ronald and Bessie Brown in Albany, CA.  She spent her childhood in the Northern California area.  Later she moved to Germany where she met Garrett.  He “Saw her Standing There” and knew she was someone special.   They later married and  spent 17 years in Germany where they raised their children, traveled the world, and made a lifetime of memories the family will all embrace for comfort.  Later they “Followed the Sun” and moved to Mesa, Arizona followed by all her adult children; she was happiest when they would all “Come Together” and just “Love, love, love”!

Kathy worked for Mesa Public Schools for 14 years, and was an avid Arizona State Sun Devil’s fan. She even named her youngest fur baby “Sparky’.  They attended many football, basketball, and softball games, something that brought them much joy.

A Celebration of Life for Kathy will be held in the near future  for family and close friends.  “With a little help from her friends” we can “Twist and Shout” and sing “Silly Little Love Songs” while reminiscing of her time here on earth, remembering  that she truly believed  “All You Need is Love”, because “In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”  Kathy is riding on a colossal wave of love.

In Lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimers Association in Kathy’s memory.

She met Ted A Larson, her future husband, on a double-date, but not with each other! The young couple fell in love and were married on August 18, 1947, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They traveled up with their parents because the Mesa Temple was closed for summer break.

After raising their family in Solomon, Ted and Mona moved to Watrous, NM, where they ranched for over 20 years. She had a fabric store in Las Vegas, NM where they also did custom sewing. While living in New Mexico, Ted and Mona served from 1994-1995 in the newly built Denver Colorado Temple. They later served two missions. Their first was in the Spain Las Palmas Mission from 1997-1998. After they moved to Mesa, Ted and Mona were called to serve in the Uruguay Montevideo Mission from 2004-2006. Blaine Todd Wiegel
03/31/1960 - 05/13/2022

Blaine Todd Wiegel, 62, went to join his Father on Friday morning, 13 May 2022.  The son of the late John F. Wiegel and Patricia (Glad) Wiegel of Mesa, Blaine was born 31 March 1960 at Ft Monmouth, NJ.  Because his father served in the US Army, Blaine and his family lived in a number of places across the US and also in some exotic foreign locations as he grew up.

In 1977 his Dad retired from the Army in Virginia and the family moved to Mesa where Blaine attended Mesa High.  Blaine met his sweetheart Shannon Harris while at Mesa High and they were married in June 1979.  He worked in the HVAC business in the Mesa area for a number of years as their young family grew, Adam arriving in 1980, Joshua in 1983, and Meagan in 1988.  Blaine’s career responsibilities expanded as he worked hard and completed a number of college courses and professional certifications.

In 1990, Blaine, Shannon and family pulled stakes and moved up to the Puget Sound area out to the peninsula and the small town of Sequim where they lived for 10 years.  Blaine decided on a career shift in 2000 and returned to Mesa, where he re-joined the HVAC business. As COO, he guided the company to be one of the area’s largest HVAC providers, until his retirement in August 2021.  With an unparalleled work ethic and passion for his employees and everyone he came across, Blaine will be forever respected and aspired to in the industry.

Blaine enjoyed golfing with friends, hiking, or fishing among the outdoor areas of Arizona.  With a third generation green thumb, Blaine created and maintained an expansive garden and fruit trees at his home on Sunnyvale.  But the joy and very best of his days were when he spent time playing, teasing, and doting on his seven grandchildren whom he adored and spoiled with a laugh and a big smile.  He had an adventurous spirit, enjoyed traveling to new places and always planning his next adrenaline rush.  Some of his best adventures included skydiving, parasailing, and gliding.  With a big smile that would light up a room, his energy and love were contagious.

He is survived by his mother, Patricia Wiegel of Mesa; sons Adam Wiegel (Kate) of Lynnwood, WA; Joshua Wiegel (Amanda) of Queen Creek; and daughter Meagan Lopez (John) also of Queen Creek, their mother Shannon Wiegel, and the cutest bunch of grandchildren.  Also mourning his passing are his two sisters Michelle Miller (Dennis), and Melanie Perkins (Keith) all of Mesa as well as his brother Kevin (Mindy) of Sun Lakes and a multitude of nieces and nephews.  Blaine was preceded in death by his father John Wiegel.

The family will gather with friends for a memorial service honoring Blaine on Saturday, 21May2022 at 10am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel at 825 South 32nd street, Mesa.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in the name of Blaine Wiegel to the American Heart Association or to your preferred charity or scholarship fund.
