Ivan William Nelson
1921/04/03 - 2009/09/20

Ivan William Nelson passed away at the age of 88 on Sept. 20th, 2009 in Mesa, Arizona surrounded by his family. Ivan was born to Andrew and Ellen Nelson and raised in Provo, Utah. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he graduated from BYU. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Gladys Dixon, in 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been married for 68 years. Together they raised their 6 children and lived in Phoenix, AZ where Ivan worked for Beneficial Life Ins. as a General Agent for AZ. After retiring and moving to Mesa, he returned to insurance with John Hancock Life. Ivan served faithfully with numerous callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed music, sports and was an avid tennis player. His greatest joy was Gladys and his children, 25 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Ivan’s faith in the Lord, his enthusiasm, compassion, generosity and humorous personality endeared him to all. He was preceded in death by his son, David (Claudia). He is survived by his wife, Gladys; sons Bill (Jeanne) and Kent (Kathleen); daughters Diane Garns (Allen), Carolyn Shockey (Jerry) and Julie Morris (Kevin); and by his brothers Lynn and Marvin. Viewing – Thurs., Sept. 24th, 6:00 – 8:00pm @ Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa. Funeral – Fri., Sept. 25th, 10:00am @Three Fountains Ward Bldg., 1852 North Stapley Drive, Mesa with viewing prior at 9:00 – 9:45 am. Interment in Provo City Cemetery, Provo, Utah.

Carter, Judy Ann of Mesa, AZ left this world Sep 13, 09 in the arms of her family. Age 59, she was born in Mesa, AZ to Weldon & Geraldine Drorbaugh. Judy is survived by her parents, husband Randy Carter, children Pennington, Bekkie, Michael, Cassie, Mollie & Nate Warner, 4 grandchildren Amethyst (Mimi), Lake & Laine Chapman & Lennon Warner, brothers David & Tim Drorbaugh & their families. Judy attended Westwood HS in Mesa & ASU. A member of the LDS Church, Val Vista Ward, she shared her love of genealogy, preparedness, canning, sewing & temple service with all. She is survived by her husband Don Ray Salisbury, their 4 living children, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Darrel Oliver

Darrel Vaughn Oliver, 44 years old, born in Decatur, IL, February 16, 1965, died September 9, 2009 in Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his brother Perry Eulis Oliver Jr. (P.J.). Those who remain are his grandfather Ted Fryer, father Perry, mother Joyce, sister Liz Tech, brothers Bill, Ted, John, Dan, Spencer, brother-in-law, several sisters-in-law, 28 nephews and nieces, and many cousins and friends. Although Darrel was disabled during his life, he loved to be with others, working with computers and helping his friends and family. His viewing will be held on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 10:00 am, followed by services at 11:00 AM at the LDS Chapel at 2334 E. Pueblo Ave. in Mesa. Darrel will be interred next to his brother P.J. at the Mesa Cemetery. Arrangements handled by Bunkers Garden Chapel 480-696-6883.

Gherkins, Trilba Claridge

Trilba Claridge Gherkins passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2009 in Mesa, Arizona surrounded by her family at the age of 95. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday September 11, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kensington Ward Chapel, 3345 E. McLellan in Mesa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Thatcher Cemetery in Thatcher, Arizona Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.

Trilba was born to Edward Claridge and Lillian Layton in Thatcher, Arizona on August 3, 1914. She was one of 7 children born to this union all of which are deceased. She married Glenn Gherkins in Los Angeles on Feb 16, 1935. They are the parents of three children, Carol Cooper Wisdom, John Gherkins, and Marilyn Faulkenberry, all of which have preceded her in death. Trilba lived her early life in Solomonville where she attended grade school and then at Safford and the Gila College in Thatcher. She furthered her education at the U of A and later at UCLA. After her marriage to Glenn, they lived in Southern California, where she practiced interior design for many in the area. They returned back to the Solomonville area where they lived for many years before moving back to Southern California. They also spent many years in Northern California before moving to the Mesa area where her husband Glenn passed on February 21, 1990. She served in many position in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had a strong testimony of the gospel. She was also called as a temple worker in Mesa LDS Temple. She is survived by 13 grandchildren, 38 great grand children and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Marjorie Jones

Marjorie Oakey Jones, born April 4, 1926, passed away Sept. 8, 2009 in Mesa, AZ at the age of 83. She was a member of the Cornerstone Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she lovingly served as the Primary Pianist for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband L. Ross Jones and her son Eric L. Jones. She is survived by her daughter Janice Snider, son Kevin Jones (Cindy), daughter-in-law Pia Jones, Daughters Christine Jones, Denise Stock (JR) and JaNeen Hewson (Ted). She had 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. There will be a visitation Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at 10:00 AM preceded by a visitation at 9:00 AM at the LDS Cornerstone Ward, 422 E. University Dr. in Mesa.

John Hubert Lyons
1936/02/08 - 2009/09/03

John Hubert Lyons, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on September 3, 2009. John was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on February 8, 1936, to Hubert Wilson and Mary Margaret Lyons. He grew up in Penn Wynne, Pennsylvania, graduated from West Chester State Teacher’s College, and spent a year teaching music in New Jersey. In 1957, he met his lifelong and eternal companion, Marlene Wade, while both worked at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. After marrying in 1958, they lived in New Jersey and Virginia while John served in the United States Army Signal Corps. In 1962, they moved to Arizona, where John attended the University of Arizona College of Law. John practiced law in the Phoenix area for nearly 40 years. His service as chairman of the Arizona State Bar Ethics Committee exemplified him as an attorney, and in all other aspects of his life. His singular integrity and professionalism added greatly to the clients he served and the lawyers with and against whom he litigated. With Marlene, John was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was blessed to have served in various positions throughout the Phoenix area, in northern Arizona, the Philippines, where he served as president of the San Fernando Mission, and Russia. He will also be remembered for his temple service. John’s tireless devotion to his Savior and to his fellow man brought immeasurable joy into the lives of all those fortunate to have known him. John is survived by the love of his life, Marlene; son Michael (Shari); daughter Suzanne Rauch; son Richard (Darlene); six grandchildren; and his sister, Robin Puckett. He will be greatly missed. June Elizabeth Williams Coyle Beck was born in Phoenix, Arizona on November 10, 1921. Her parents were Elizabeth Crouch and Archie Andrew Williams, who owned a farm outside of Chandler. June was the first of four children, including A.C. Williams of Prescott, Gerald Williams (deceased), and Billie Jo Stricker of Colorado Springs. She was baptized in the Church of Christ. June married Johnnie E. Coyle in 1937. Together they farmed, raised cattle and owned a grocery store in Chandler. During their 37 years together they had two daughters Carolyn Verweyst and Gayle M. Fox. Their grandchildren include Andrew, Leslie and Brianna Fox. Besides raising two wonderful girls June had a variety of jobs during her life. Gunnell, Wayne K., 28, of Mesa, passed away from injuries suffered in a car accident on Aug. 31, 2009. Wayne was born 8-4-81 in Mesa to parents Jeff and Vicki Gunnell. He attended MacArthur Elementary, Kino Jr., Stapley Jr., and graduated from Mt. View High School in 2000. Wayne graduated from Mesa Community College with a Criminal Justice degree in May, 2009. He was an Eagle Boy Scout, and served a LDS church mission to Orlando, Florida. Wayne is survived by his parents, sisters Heather, Heidi Burnham (Brian), Amber Standage (Chaz), grandparents Karl and Norene Gunnell, nephew Hunter Burnham, and many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Wayne was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, and uncle. He will always be remembered for his incredible sense of humor, wonderful laugh, his great number of friends, and the way he lit up a room with his smile. A viewing will be held from 6-8pm on Fri. Sept. 4th at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N Centennial Way, Mesa. The funeral will be at 9:30am on Sat. Sept. 5th at the LDS chapel on 1455 N. Harris St., Mesa. Gardner, Guy M, 86 of Mesa, AZ passed away on August 27, 2009. Guy was born July 10, 1923 in Snowflake, AZ. He is survived by his loving wife, Afton, and his children, Edd, Ron, Teresa (Burkie) Wurts, Lance (Marti), and Lisa (Danny) DeWitt, 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Guy was a plastering contractor for 52 years. Served faithfully in the LDS Church and was a temple worker in the Mesa LDS Temple. Guy was beloved by his family, friends and all those who knew him. Jeremy Ray Holt, Beloved Husband, Father, Son, 39, of Gilbert, AZ passed away unexpectedly Sunday Aug. 23, 2009. He was born May 7, 1970 in Orem, UT to Ray & Jeana Holt. He married Gina Nichols, Nov. 1995 in the Manti Temple. They have 4 beautiful children: Anthony (12), Benjamin (10), Jessika (8), Chelsey (6), and one on the way. Jeremy loved spending time with his family, especially playing with his children. He enjoyed cooking for and entertaining his many friends and family. He was an avid reader and loved learning about his ancestors. He was a big kid at heart and was known for his great sense of humor. He made many long lasting friendships throughout his life.

Jeremy graduated from Orem High in 1985. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Winnipeg, Canada. He faithfully served as Scout Master, Elders Quorum President, in the Sunday School, Primary and as a Home Teacher. He loved the Lord and was an inspirational teacher of the scriptures. He is survived by his wife, children, and parents, brother Jeffrey Holt (Brandy), sisters Jenifer (Jeff) Horne & Rhonda (Vernon) Stout, grandmother Lucy Rowley, many nieces and nephews and beloved in-laws. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Albert M. Rowley Sr., Ernest & Thelma Holt. Funeral services will be Thurs, Aug 27, 2009 at 11 AM at the Higley Road Ward Building, 1865 S Higley Rd Gilbert, AZ. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing Wed. evening from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N Centennial Way Mesa, AZ or one hour prior to funeral services. Nancy Bondie, 62, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away on August 9, 2009 after years of courageously battling multiple health issues. She was born April 25, 1947 in Birkenhead, England. Nancy leaves behind her mother Catherine (Kit) Floyd, best friend and companion Rich Gruse, daughter Jackie (Hesser), son Derek, four beautiful grandchildren, Sydney and Leah (Hesser), Dawson and Drew (Bondie), many friends and extended family members in Arizona and Michigan. Nancy had a feisty personality and was a dedicated fan of all sports. She had a gentle soul and a fighting spirit and will be deeply missed by all. Services are private. Always love you mom. William “Billy” Johnston

William “Billy” Josef Johnston, on Saturday, August 8, 2009, Billy once again was able to feel our Father in Heaven’s loving arms wrap around him. Billy was born in Provo, UT, August 22, 1986. He is a 2002 graduate of Lamar Consolidated High School, Rosenberg, TX and attended Wharton Jr. College. Billy was a very charming young man who had lots of wit and who made everyone around him laugh. He was the joy and light of his family. That light will be missed tremendously. When he was younger his favorite place to vacation was boating with his family at Lake Powell. He loved water skiing, knee boarding and especially riding the water rocket. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and tried snow skiing on more than one occasion but didn’t care much for the cold. He leaves behind his parents Wm. E. and Carrie Johnston; brothers, Kayle, Rhett, Derek and wife Sasha; grandparents Wm. E. and Dona Johnston, Thomas S. and Melva Jeanne Adamson. Darlene Wrobley, 81, of Cornville, Arizona, beloved wife of Ray Wrobley, lost her battle with cancer on August 8, 2009, in Tempe, Arizona. She was born Darlene Marjorie Hines in Martin, South Dakota, on February 17, 1928. As an artist, she lived her life creating beauty and gardening. She is survived by her husband Ray Wrobley; sons David Bower, Douglas Bower, and Daryl Bower; daughter Darla Oder; grandchildren Christy Warford, David Bower II, Nicole Bower, Jason Bower, Marissa Bower and Tyson Smith; great-grandchildren Joshua, Logan and Taylor; and sister Deloris Wooten. Arrangements handled by Bunker’s Garden Chapel. Graveside service at 9:00 am, Thursday, August 13th at Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center Street.

Kenneth Roninska

Kenneth E. Rozinska, 77 of Apache Jct., AZ died Aug. 1, 2009 at Trillium Hospital in Mesa, AZ. He was born Jan. 29, 1932 in Grand Rapids, MI to Kenneth F. and Alma (Morehouse) Rozinska, and was the second of three children. He joined the Army in 1950, served in the Korean War, stationed at Fort Carson, CO. He married Cora Sandoval on Aug. 1, 1953; eventually settling in Salida, CO. They have three children.

Kenneth worked at Climax as a welder and moved to Apache Jct., AZ in 1970. He was a very talented man who could do any kind of work. He enjoyed spending time with his family and always made sure they were taken care of. He loved to attend golf tournaments, car races and baseball games. Kenneth liked and was well liked by everyone. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents Ken and Alma Rozinska and one sister, Marge Collins. Survivors include wife, Cora; children, Robert Rozinska, Keitha Rozinska and Denise (Lewis) Bailey; Sister, Valda McLucas; grandchildren, Kandi (Kenneth) Nelson, Kenneth J. Rozinska, Christopher Harty, Nicole Bailey and Ryan Bailey; great-grandchildren, Kyle Nelson and Ayla Bailey; several nieces and nephews and very special nephew Melvin Valdez. The rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Aug. 14, 2009 at St. George’s Catholic Church, 300 E. 16th Ave., Apache Jct., AZ, Following the service his ashes will be interred with military honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
