Dale E. Heugly, 74, of Mesa, AZ, returned “home

Jones, Jay Dean, 77, beloved patriarch passed away 2/11/12 at his home in Mesa, Arizona. Born in Chandler to Leland and Minnie Jones, Jay Dean is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart Naomi, their three children Michael, Jennifer, and Melanie, and their spouses, twelve grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Jay Dean graduated with a B.A. from Arizona State University in 1956 in English and minored in Drama, later finishing his M.A. at A.S.U. His teaching career also began in 1956 at Mesa High School. He moved to Westwood High School at its opening and retired there in 1989. In 1967 he co-founded Mesa Musical Theater. As its only director he thrilled thespians and audiences alike with 24 years of critically acclaimed summer productions. Jay Dean held many prestigious positions in the community and received numerous awards and accolades through the years. His legacy is best found, though, in his loving family and in the lives of thousands of students whose very souls he helped mold. Visitation is Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa. Funeral services are Sat., Feb. 18, 2012 at 11 AM, preceded by a visitation at 10 AM at the LDS Beverly Ward, 1054 W. 2nd Place, Mesa.

Donald L Sigler, 75. Earth has given Heaven another angel. Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Don passed on to a new life surrounded by his wife of 55 years, Beverly and his daughters, Dawn and Davida. He was preceded in death by his son Eric and his grandson Matthew. He was born in St Francisville, MO on April 20, 1936. Don retired from Honeywell after many years as a Machinist. He served his country in the Air Force from 1958-1962. He is survived by his wife, Beverly, daughters, Dawn & Davida, grandchildren, Mikel, Kerry, Ricky, Justin, Kyle and Brittany, great-grandchildren Ezra, Brodi, Caden, Kendal & Lexi. Visitation is Wednesday, 2/15/12 from 6-8 pm at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. Graveside services will be Thursday, 2/16/12 from 12:30 – 1 pm at National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix AZ.

Cadiente, Ronald, 61, died in a mountain bike accident February 11, 2012. He is survived by his wife Pamela, children Garron (Sharon) Cadiente, Brett Cadiente, Maren (Jimmy) Bloomer, Brooke Cadiente, Paige (Sterling) Stahle, 13 grandchildren and brothers Herb Davis, Carlos Cadiente and Rick Cadiente. A kind and loving husband, father and grandfather he was devoted to his family whom he loved unconditionally and enjoyed being involved their lives. He was passionate about the work he did as a software salesman and valued the relationships he made. He was honest, hardworking, sincere, and compassionate. Ron was a baseball coach, avid hiker, mountain biker, University of Arizona graduate and family man who was as generous in his relationships as he was genuine. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission in southern California and served in a variety of church leadership positions, including Bishop, all of which he loved. He was an influence for good in every aspect of his life. He is missed and loved by many, especially his family. Carlotta Jeanne Inorio Matta, 69 passed away February 9, 2012 in Mesa, AZ. She was born Sept. 3, 1942 in Chicago, IL to Anthony Inorio and Rosemary Giacomozza Schibley. She loved her family, friends, painting, gardening, traveling with family and the family’s long horn cattle ranch. She was the owner of Matta’s Mexican Restaurant and Matta’s Mexican Grill. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Anita Harte. She is survived by her husband, David Matta and children Kim (Patrick) Connelly, Don (Teri) Kleifgen, Christopher (Susan) Matta, Peter (Gretchen) Matta, Elliott (Todd) McMahon, Elissa (Todd) Kaspar, 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wed., Feb. 15, 2012 from 6-8 PM, with a Rosary at 7 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. Funeral services are Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at 10 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1551 E. Dana Ave., Mesa, followed by the burial at Mt. View Memorial Gardens. Shirley Jane (Clark) Hinckley, age 78, passed away February 10, 2012, peacefully at home, surrounded by her family in Mesa, Arizona. Shirley was born in Wichita Kansas in 1933 to parents Omar Clinton Clark and Anna Swenson Clark. Shirley was one of eight children. She grew up in Salt Lake City Utah where she attended East High School and also helped run the family portrait studio “The Ritz”. Shirley was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was the matriarch of the family and the consummate family woman as well as a tireless volunteer for the church. Shirley migrated to Mesa Arizona in 1970 with her six children and sister Paulie Clark. Upon retirement, from Bank of America in 1995, Shirley retired to the Winston-Salem/Clemmons areas of North Carolina to live until returning to Mesa Arizona in 2011. Shirley took great joy in the history and traditions of her faith. Her strength, will and love of family will always guide us. Shirley had an uncommon wit and sassy sense of humor and will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Shirley is survived by her four sons David, Mark, John and Randy Hinckley, two daughters Julie Camarata and Debbie Apsey, twenty six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, her sister Elaine Ray and a myriad of other relatives. Shirley will be laid to rest in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Donations in her loving memory to the American Cancer Society appreciated.

Anna May Nielson Flowers, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend died in Mesa, AZ on February 8, 2012. Anna is now running, dancing, and free.

Anna was born in Oakley, Idaho August 8, 1924 to Julius Nielson and Laura Olivia Jensen Nielson. Anna was the youngest of eight children in the family. When she was one year old, Anna moved to Salt Lake City with her family.

Anna graduated from East High School in 1942. She enjoyed singing, dancing, and sports activities. She completed college courses at the University of Utah and at L. D. S. Business College as she worked to provide support for her widowed mother.

Anna married Clifford Lionel Flowers for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City temple November 18, 1943. The marriage produced four sons: Ronald, Lynn, Paul, and Dean.

Anna was stricken with polio in 1949. She remained paraplegic for the rest of her life. Yet, Anna remained very active–raising her children, serving as a teacher and as a leader in the L. D. S. church, decorating cakes, and inspiring the lives of thousands of people by her shining countenance, courage, and dedication.

Anna’s husband, Clifford Flowers, died in 1986. Her son, Ronald Flowers, also died in 1986. Anna suffered the loss of Paul, her beloved infant son, when he was three days old and while she was hospitalized due to polio. Anna is survived by her sons, Lynn Flowers and Dean Flowers (wife: Lisa), and by her grandchildren, Teresa Flowers, Jeana Flowers, and Shaun Flowers.

Anna married Irvin Henry Smart in 1991. They enjoyed nearly fourteen years of love and companionship. Anna dearly loved Irvin and his family.

Funeral services will be held at the Mesa Arizona East Stake Center, 2228 E. Brown Rd., Mesa, AZ 85213 on February 18. Viewing will take place from 10:00-10:45 A. M. The funeral will be at 11:00 A. M.

On February 21, there will be a viewing and memorial service for Anna at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Homes, 4760 S. State St. in Murray, UT from 10:00 A. M. until noon. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at the Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E. 4580 S., beside her eternal companion, Clifford Lionel Flowers.

Greg Shura, 76, died on February 8, 2012 in Gilbert, AZ. Greg was born in Hawaii to Myrtle and Elias. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a supervisor for General Motors Proving Grounds in Mesa, AZ. Greg enjoyed fishing and family. He was generous and selfless, always helping others. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sonia. He is survived by his wife Jan, brother Glenn, sons Ty and Matthew, daughter Blair and grandchildren Tyler, Tristan, Paris, Fox, Cruise, and Tripp. There will be a Remembrance at the Shura’s home on Sunday, February 12th at 2:00pm.

Nelda Elaine Huber Anderson, 87, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012, at her home in Mesa. An Arizona native and the youngest of 12 children, Nelda was born on the family farm east of Mesa to Arizona pioneers, John Jacob and Percis Huber. After graduation from Mesa Union High School, she attended Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah. There she met and married her husband of 58 years, Jay O. Anderson in the Arizona Temple. Following WWII and graduate school in Maryland, they moved back to Logan where they lived for 33 years and raised their 6 children. Nelda was busy in community and church activities. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as a stake Primary president, ward Relief Society president, and as a teacher in both the primary and young women’s organizations. She also worked in the PTA, serving as a chapter president. In 1985 following retirement, Jay kept a promise to Nelda and returned her to live in Arizona’s warmer weather where they served as officiators in the Mesa Arizona Temple for over 12 years. Jay died in 2002. Nelda and Jay loved to dance and traveled to attend dances around the West. Nelda was an accomplished family woman and homemaker. She took pride in her children and the things she did in her home. As an outstanding cook she was known for her chocolates and cake decorating. Nelda is survived by her six children: Wayne (Genan) of Orem, Utah.; Ray (Lynn) of Mesa; Russell (Charmaine) of Orem, Utah; Elaine (Doug) of Canyon Lake, Texas.; Dale (Helen) of Tucson, and Keith (Barbara) of Deweyville, Utah. She also leaves thirty-five grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Olive, Mattie, Thelma, Mae, Inez and Irma, and brothers Lee, Ernest, Albert, Waldo and Paul. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11 at 11 AM in the LDS chapel at 422 E University Dr. A viewing will be held Friday, February 10 from 6 to 8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, and for one hour prior to the memorial service. Burial will be in the Mesa City Cemetery. In honor of Nelda, donations can be made to the Perpetual Education, Humanitarian or Temple Participation Funds of the LDS Church.

After strong arming the Death Angel for 15 years, Ralph Jackson entered into final rest surrounded by his family in his home on February 6, 2012 at the age of 92. Ralph was born in Hazen, Arkansas on February 6, 1920. He retired to Mesa, Arizona in 1970 after 27 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He then worked for Valley National Bank as an Assistant Comptroller. He was active in the Sons of the American Revolution, Military Officers of America Association and the Mayflower Society.

Ralph served in World War ll in the European theater as a pilot and received the Air Medal. He received a bachelor’s degree in Military Science and a master’s degree in Accountancy.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeane Jackson, whom he loved dearly and four daughters, Linda (Michael) Brown, Margo Allerton, Rhonda (Luccia) Jackson and Becky (Tom) Scotney, five grandchildren, Tim (Carra) Brown, Chris (Venus) Brown, Nathan Stipes and Tyler and Laura Scotney, three great-grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Terrell and Margaret (Maggie May Sanders) Jackson, and four brothers and a sister.

Ralph was a man of courage and honor and an inspiration to his family and friends. He will be missed. Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at 11:00a.m., at Grace United Methodist Church, 2024 E. University Dr., Mesa, AZ 85213. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to a charity of your choice.

Mary Alice Griffin Hackitt, 85, was born on May 11, 1926. She died Sunday, Jan 29, 2011 in Mesa AZ. Mary was a World War II war bride, she married Jack Hackitt, a young lieutenant in the army at Ft. Worth TX in 1943. They were married 53 yrs. Mary and Jack had four children Jackie, Sandra and twins David and Dale. Mary was born in Kansas City, MO and lived most of her life in Mesa. She was preceded in death by her son Jack R Hackitt (Jackie) in 1969 and her beloved husband Lt Col Jack Hackitt in 1997. Mary is survived by daughter Sandra Macdonald (Duane) of Elk Ridge, UT, sons David (Gail), Dale (Tana) of Mesa AZ, brother Gary Griffin of Long Beach CA, 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Mary became an accomplished painter later in life and was also a member of the Mahnah Club. She and Jack loved to bowl and travel and most of all she loved every moment spent with her large family. Viewing will be Thursday Feb. 2 from 6-8PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N Centennial Way, Mesa. Interment will be at the City of Mesa Cemetery.

Carla Wagner, much loved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend passed away January 29, 2012 in Mesa AZ. Carla was born in Colonia Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico to Wilbur Wagner and Carel Robinson Wagner on June 12, 1961. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. Carla was a dedicated employee for almost 25 years for the City of Mesa, working in the City Attorney’s office and most recently in the office of the City Manager. She is survived by parents of Mesa AZ and siblings, Teria (David) Mortensen, St George UT; Paula (Art) Whiting, Mesa AZ; Tami (Larry) Reeves, Friendswood TX; Brenda (Eric) Larsen, Orem UT; Ted (Shauna) Wagner, South Jordan UT; Jana (Kirk) Tryon, Allen TX; Kevin (Kim) Wagner, Chico CA and Shauna Wagner, Mesa AZ. Carla is also survived by 27 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by niece, Savannah Wagner. Services for Carla will be on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the LDS church at 2334 E. Pueblo (24th St & Pueblo) with a viewing 1 hour before. There will also be a viewing Thursday evening, 6-8 PM at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University. Burial will be at the City of Mesa Cemetery.

Sidney King Stephenson, beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home on January 28, 2012 surrounded by those he loved. He married Rita Darling on June 2, 1950. After Rita’s passing in 1989, Sid married Jeanne Allen in 1990. He was revered and loved by both families. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a businessman with the Albertson’s organization for many years, later owning and operating his own stores. His honesty and integrity were above reproach. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving faithfully in bishoprics and other capacities. He served church missions in Hawaii, the Baltic States, and in the U.S. He was known for his wisdom, honesty, generosity, faithfulness and unconditional love. Survivors include his children, Sharon (Bruce) Skinner, Caldwell, ID; Craig Stephenson, Blackfoot, ID; Mark (Diane) Stephenson, Idaho Falls, ID; Scott (Debra) Stephenson, Stansbury Park, UT; Susan (Mike) Root, SLC, UT; his wife, Jeanne, and her nine children, Sandie, Craig, Susan, Ron, Shelly, Stacy, Shauna, Sherri and Stephanie as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Marion Petersen, Thelma Good, Emma Lou Hartwell, Betty Cushman, Peggy Momb, and Donna Stephenson. He is preceded in death by his wife Rita, granddaughter Stephanie, his brothers, Randall, Robert, and Charles and a sister, Marjorie Armstrong. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 2, at 10 AM at the LDS Cooley Park Ward, 3920 E. Brown Rd, Mesa. Viewing will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 S. Memorial Park, SLC, UT on Feb 3, at 2 PM. He will be given full military honors. Arrangements by Bunker’s University Chapel.

Maria Rebecca Lopez passed away on January 26, 2012 at the age of 94. She was originally from Puerto Vallarta, México and came to Arizona in 1956. She and her husband Bernardo were the original founders of Azteca Bakeries in Phoenix, devoting many hours to the success of the business. She worked all her life and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and Bernardo served a temple mission in México City and she was an ordinance worker for many years in the Mesa Arizona Temple. She was preceded in death by children Eliseo, Bernie, and Jorge and husband Bernardo. She is survived by her children Raquel Whetten, Eva Jessop, Becky Gephart, Xavier Lopez, and Felix Lopez, along with 37 grandchildren, and 113 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 30, 2012 at 11 AM, with visitation at 9 AM at the LDS Church located at 650 W Southern Ave, in Phoenix.
