Lillis Maurine Reeder Cluff, 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2013, in Queen Creek, AZ, where she had resided for 71 years. Maurine was born in Brigham City, Utah, on April 27, 1917, to Daniel Seth and Lillias Eva Hadley Reeder. Our lovely mother was educated in Utah, graduating from the University of Utah with a major in Spanish and minor in French. Prior to her marriage to Ivan LeRoy Cluff of Chandler, AZ, she taught school in Ogden, Utah, and when married they moved to Arizona. Ivan farmed the Queen Creek area for many years and Maurine taught school in Queen Creek. She had the wonderful opportunity to teach young people, their children, and then their grandchildren English, Spanish and Home Economics skills. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in the Spanish American Mission and numerous church callings, including the 10th Relief Society President of the Chandler Ward. She was admired and was a stalwart in the community with her knowledge of the history of Queen Creek. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ivan Cluff, and more recently by her brother Darrell Reeder and grandson, Eric Kimball Lines. Survivors include her sons Gerald (Joan), Kenneth (Sharon), Leon (Angie), and daughter Marjean (Ted) Lines. Her posterity includes many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Maurine will be held on Saturday, January 26th, at 10:30am in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 19413 S. Sossaman Rd., Queen Creek, AZ. Prior to the services a viewing will be held from 9am to 10:15am. Interment will be at the City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center Street, Mesa, AZ. Patrick Lewis Stanley, 60, passed away Jan. 18, 2013 in Tempe, AZ. He was born Dec. 4, 1952 in Waukegan, IL. Patrick worked 38 years as a barber and the past 11 years he was self-employed as the owner of Azstoneworx with his wife Lorna. Patrick loved to spend time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Alvin Waldemar Stanley. He is survived by his wife Lorna, son Jeffrey Allan (Cynthia) Stanley, grandson Natel, mother Lorraine (Roy) Bentley, brothers Gary (Linda) and Rick Stanley and two nephews. Visitation is Tues., January 22, 2013 from 6:30-8:30pm, with rosary at 7pm, at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa. Mass is Wed., January 23, 2012 at noon at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 1800 E. Libra Drive, Tempe, AZ. Burial at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Mesa AZ, followed by a reception at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Tempe, AZ. Terry Wayne Cope passed away January 15, 2013 at his home in Mesa, Arizona. He was born in Rapid City, SD on July 17, 1948 to Vernon and Ila June (Small) Cope. He fought his fight with cancer his way – naturally – and touched many lives with his different approach. He did it his way, with dignity and courage. He was blessed with a year of accomplishments, blessings, memories and one in which he touched many lives.

He attended school in Rapid City. He served honorably in the U S Navy Submarine Service from 1968 until 1974.

On December 7, 1968 he married Claudia Tschetter in Rapid City. They loved and enjoyed their 7 children and the time they spent at home or traveling with them. Family and home were the heart of Terry’s world. Every day with Terry was a delight when he found a way to make you laugh or smile and made you feel like you were the most important person in his world.

He loved being with his family, teaching them the gospel and inspiring their dreams. He loved wood working, which inspired his life-long occupations, building homes and the construction business. Terry sold and erected steel buildings – he has one in every state in the continent. He passed on the love of building to his sons.

Gus Kambouris passed away peacefully early Sunday morning January 13, 2013, with his daughter by his side. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, August 4, 1924 to Efstratios Kambouris and Mary K DeVine. He married Jean Tillman on April 1, 1950 in Las Vegas, NV. Gus was an extremely accomplished man having served as a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps in the European Theater during WWII. He worked for the Department of Defense for Twenty-nine years. During this time he served two tours overseas including Trois Fontaines Ammunition Depot in France and Camp Zama Japan. Michael Thomas Richards, age 68, born in Anderson, Indiana, on October 15th, 1944, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Mesa, Arizona, on Tuesday, January 15th, 2013. He was a resident of Mesa for 45 years. He was a faithful Latter-Day Saint and served in many capacities within the church. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Beverly Beatty Richards. He is survived by his brother, Tom Richards, his sister, Sharon Richards, and his 6 children: Mike (Kelly), Dave (Janet), Steve (Jolana), Renee (Larry), Gena (Doug) and Meredith (Jon). He had 21 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. A viewing will be held Monday, January 21st, 2013, at the Bunker University Chapel in Mesa, Arizona, from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013, at 10am at the LDS Apache Junction Stake Center, 1720 North Ironwood Road. Internment will follow at the City of Mesa Cemetery.

Johnson, Marjorie (Guinn), age 81, formerly of Mesa, Arizona, passed gently from this life to the next on January 16, 2013, in Orem, Utah. Marjorie was born in Phoenix on March 5, 1931, the second child of Roy Guinn and Nell (King) Guinn of Ajo, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Gene, a sister Thelma Watson, a grandson Nathanael, and her beloved husband of 58 years, Frederick G. Johnson, Jr. She is survived by her brothers Gayle (Dianne) of Mesa, and Grant (Kathy) of Phoenix; her six sons McKay (Sue Anne), Lee (Elizabeth), Bryn (Lee Ann), Erin (Ginger), Webb (Vachelle), and Jared (Vicki); 23 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. As a childhood convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she led her parents and siblings into life-long, active membership in the Church. She devoted her life to the raising of her sons, to the care of other family members, and to service in the Church. Many of her Church callings drew on her magnificent musical gifts as chorister, pianist, and vocalist. She was also a talented artist and author with numerous original paintings and stories to her credit. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, January 24, at Bunker’s Garden Chapel 33 N. Margaret D Klein, passed away January 8, 2013 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born August 17, 1929 in Langhorn, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her son Richard J. Donna May Benson Thompson Beckstead, 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 12, 2013 at her home with her family around her. She was born in Fairview, Franklin, Idaho on March 19, 1921 and lived in Idaho until 1957 when she moved to Mesa, AZ. She lived a life of service to her family and church. She is survived by her five children Julie (Gary) McDowell, Randi Baker, Marie (Grant) Coley, Jerry (Diana) Thompson, Brent (Marlene) Thompson, 19 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Her favorite activities were bowling, gardening, sewing, and the Phoenix Suns. She was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart Blaine Thompson and the late Ace Beckstead, her father Morgan Benson, mother Myrtle Benson, two brothers Lee & Seth, grandson Blaine and granddaughters Michelle & Amber. Visitation will be January 18, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. There will be a viewing January 19, 2013 at the LDS Chapel at 613 N. Stewart in Mesa from 10 to 10:45am followed by a memorial service at 11. Interment will be at the Mesa Cemetery in Mesa, AZ.

Mary Gwen Holdaway Riding-Searle passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children and husband, in her home on January 13, 2013 in Mesa, AZ. She was born October 7, 1932 in Vineyard, UT. She married Lynn Wright Riding on December 14, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. Mary was a wonderful homemaker and mother. She served faithfully in many capacities in the LDS church and LDS temple. Her endless compassion for others endeared her to her family, friends and neighbors. She married Tex Searle on September 18, 2010 in Mesa, AZ. She was preceded in death by her first husband Lynn; her parents Harold Holdaway and Norma Holdaway-Christensen; brothers Michael and Jay Elmer Holdaway; and sisters Deon Hulsey, Carole Iwamura, and Vicki Woods. She is survived by her 8 children: John Lynn (Terry), Rebecca Thacker (Boyd), Amy Jones (Kyle), David Andrew (Andrea), Benjamin Todd (Kelli), Richard Harold, Robert Stephen (Amy) and Mary Jane Riding. She has 44 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 18 from 6-8 pm at the Mesa Solomon Ward, 977 E. Broadway Rd. Funeral services will be at 10 am Saturday, Jan.19, at the same location with visitation at 9 am. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.

Melba Flake Pierce passed away January 10, 2013 at her home in Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband Loren Walter Pierce. She is survived by her daughters Lianne Thomson, Colleen Olsen, 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at the LDS Bethany Home Ward, 8710 N. 3rd Ave., Phoenix, 85021. Burial will be in the Snowflake Cemetery. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.

Beverly Jean Campbell (McDonough), 77, was born in Hollywood, CA January 1, 1936 to Myrtle Smith and Warren Downs McDonough. For the past 40 years she lived in Mesa, AZ and passed away January 9, 2013 after struggling for more than 30 years with Parkinson’s Disease. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Donald Campbell and 3 children, Donna, Diane and Brett. She also has 8 grandchildren, Brice, Chris, Nick, Terran, Brookelyn, Madison, Brayden, and Jordyn. She was a very faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was always a good example to everyone. She will be dearly missed. Glenn Alden Jones, a longtime Arizona resident, went to be with our Lord on January 7, 2013 with his loving wife and son at his side. Glenn was born in Chelsea, Oklahoma on April 4, 1936. Glenn is survived by his wife Ann, son G. Travis Jones, daughters Anita Cooper and Glenda Phillips, stepchildren Frances Wayland and William Newman, sister Helen Barnes and brothers Ray, Everett and Jessie Don Jones. He also has 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He is predeceased by his daughter Jennifer, his sister Zadie Tidwell and his parents Clifford and Pearl Jones. Glenn was a Renaissance man. He held many interesting and diverse jobs including the US Army, mining, roofing, construction and Corrections. He retired from the City of Phoenix in 1996 where he had been the Supervisor of the Low Income Weatherization program for many years until it was outsourced and he finished his career as Building Maintenance Supervisor in charge of Terminal 3 and the General Aviation spaces. Brittany Anne Schramm was welcomed back to her Heavenly home on January 4, 2013. Brittany was born December 27, 1982 in Phoenix, AZ. She graduated with honors from the University of Utah, with a degree in chemistry and was accepted into the University of Utah Medical School. Brittany, however, knew that her hopes and dreams lay in raising a family, so she chose to forego medicine, marrying her sweetheart, Jeffrey Schramm, December 17, 2005, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Her dreams came true with the births of Alexis (5) and Jackson (2), her two cherished children, whom she taught by example to love, dance, sing, and laugh. They lived in Utah and Texas before moving to Arizona. Brittany enjoyed playing the piano, biking, and jogging. She had an innate ability to care for and love others even in times of great personal adversity. While training for a triathlon in April 2012, Brittany was involved in a biking accident which left her paralyzed from the chest down. Brittany spent the next 9 months learning to care for herself and family, despite her handicap, struggling with great pain and difficulties. She was a shining example of courage as she surmounted great obstacles, learning how to sit up on her own, do pushups, and drive the car, all while continuing to be an amazing mother and wife. She lived her life strong in spirit and love. She vowed she would walk again in 2013; and she is walking now. Brittany was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Schramm; children, Alexis and Jackson; her parents, Greg and JoRita Nielsen, one sister, Jennifer, and a brother, Eric. Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the Salt River LDS Stake Center, 6942 East Brown Rd, Mesa, AZ, with a memorial gathering from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, January 11, at the same location. Don L. Turley, 81 of Mesa, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2013 after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was born March 31, 1931 in Snowflake, AZ to Harvey and Melba Turley. After grade school in Snowflake he attended high school in Iowa where his family moved, excelling in sports and student council. He served an LDS Mission in the New England states from 1951-53, and then in the Army from ’53-55. Following his military service he attended Arizona State University receiving a BS in Agronomy. This led to employment for the U of A Experimental farm in Mesa and later the ASU Cotton Center, researching pesticides. While at ASU in 1959, he met and married Martha Ann Bartson in the Mesa Temple. They settled in Mesa raising four boys and five girls. Martha preceded Don in death, passing in 1988. He is survived by all nine of his children; Guy (Alison), Greg (Bobbie Jo), Gay, Glenae, Genie (Billy), Gary (Beth), Gennifer (Creston), Genice (Zack), Geoff (Karen), and 28 grandchildren. To support his large family Don left agricultural research and worked in the construction industry for more than twenty years before finding his last career driving a bus for Mesa Public Schools. He loved to work and would often outpace men half his age. Visitation is Friday, January 11 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N Centennial Way. Services will be held Saturday January 12 at the Old 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 15 W 1st Ave in Mesa. Visitation from 10-10:45 with services starting at 11. Interment will be at the Mesa City Cemetery.

Porter, Robert (Bob) J.,82, departed his earthly home for his heavenly one on December 31, 2012, much to the extreme sadness of everyone who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 22 years, May. Bob began his earthly journey in Michigan 82 years ago and ended it in Chandler, where he was a past Masonic Lodge Master (2003), a member of Scottish Rite, a board member of his homeowner’s association, and attended Tri-City Baptist Church for some time, where he was a member. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, then trained in Chandler, Arizona, and Marana AFB, also in Arizona, and served as a jet fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of Major. Bob’s academic degree was in electrical engineering, and as such, he worked for a variety of companies including General Electric and concluded his career here in the Valley of the Sun at Motorola Electronics Group where he worked for 25 years. Bob even tried his hand at ranching for a time. He was a man of extreme intelligence, quick wit and sociability, always gracious to business acquaintances, friends and family alike, being especially well loved by his wife’s considerably large family. Bob is preceded in death by his mother Mary, his father Lyle, and his sister Jean. Besides his dear and beloved wife, May, Bob leaves behind his five children: John, Kevin (Grace), Diane (Bill), Eileen (Tim) and Dan (Janet); his stepdaughter Kelly (Jim) and their beautiful daughter Evelyn, with whom he was very close; also ten grandchildren: John Lee, Brandy, Alana, Stephanie, Erin, Kyle, Sean, Danielle, Kaitlan, and Colleen; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Tri-City Baptist Church, 2211 W. Germann Rd. in Chandler, with graveside services and interment with military honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Rex Jay St. John, born May 19, 1938 in Albany Indiana, entered Eternal Life on January 1, 2013 in Chandler, Arizona. He was preceded in passing by his parents, “Rollie” and Lavon St. John. Rex was the beloved husband of Mona St. John, loving father of Rex H. St. John and Renee (Randy) Bastic, and the cherished grandfather of Bond, Alec, Spencer, Jacqueline and Ryan. Rex was the founder of Dairy Dream Ice Cream, Inc. in Indiana and Mother Earth Water in Arizona. He enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, motorcycle riding and fishing. He loved people, loved life and adored his grandchildren! He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Visitation is Sunday, January 6th from 4-7pm at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, 85201. Funeral services will be Monday, January 7th at 9am, at the same location.
