Craig, Lance Richard, 39, loving husband, father, son and brother passed away Monday May 20, 2013 in Goshen, Indiana after an extended illness. He was born March 11, 1974 in Phoenix, Arizona to Carole Lynn Abrams and Richard Scott Craig. Survivors include his wife, Mary, and children Elise, Eric and Kaitlyn; mother, Carole, and stepfather, George Hibner, a brother, Dustin (Tiffany), and in-laws Len and Julie Greer and many family members. Lance loved serving in the medical field and was a respected paramedic, registered nurse, and CRNA. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bunker’s Garden Chapel 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa, Arizona. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 2700 E. Guadalupe Road in Gilbert preceded by a short visitation at 9:00 a.m.

Marilyn Jean Eaton

Marilyn Jean Eaton, 81, passed away peacefully May 14, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona. Jean was born on July 11, 1931 to Clyde and Wilma Kemper in Julesburg, Colorado, where she spent her youth, graduating from Sedgwick County High School where she was prom queen and valedictorian of her class. She lived in Oshkosh, Nebraska after she married her high school sweetheart, the late Robert Marlatt, in 1950. They moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1959. She earned her AA degree as a library technician from MCC in 1973. She had a very happy, active life, filled with family, friends, and church. As an active member of First Christian Church of Mesa (Disciples of Christ) for over 54 years, she taught Sunday school, participated in Christian Women’s Fellowship, and served as a deaconess and Elder. Active in other organizations such as Church Women United, the Music Guild, Mesa Fine Arts, and Meals on Wheels, Jean also volunteered over 5000 hours for Mesa Lutheran Hospital, and was involved in the auxiliary. She was a member and past president of PEO Chapter Z. Jean was able to travel extensively with her second husband, the late William “Bill

Wayne J. Brown
1936/11/16 - 2013/05/14

The Honorable Wayne Brown of Mesa passed away Tuesday, May 14, ending a long battle with hemorrhagic strokes. Born in Mesa November 16, 1936, he served on the Mesa City Council from 1968 to 1976 and as Mayor from 1996 to 2000. When serving as Mayor, Brown and his City Council persuaded voters to pass a one-half cent Quality-of-Life Sales tax supporting police, fire, parks and library services as well as the construction of the Mesa Arts Center, which he viewed as his greatest achievement as Mayor. Mayor Brown was a Mesa High School graduate and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Arizona State University. He worked in public accounting and founded a Mesa CPA practice, Wayne Brown & Company, where he worked until 1978. He purchased Brown Evans Distributing Co., a wholesale fuel distributor, in the early 80’s. Wayne led a very happy, active life filled with family, friends and many activities such as golfing, flying, fishing and traveling. He is the son of Bert and Elva Brown of Mesa. Wayne is survived by his wife of 33 years Kathye; his mother Elva; his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Wade Solomon; his son Martin Wayne and wife Steffani; his son Kent and wife Melisha; his twin brother Duaine and younger brother Henry; grandchildren Cliff, Sarah, Brock and Hannah Solomon and Jeff, Jessalyn, Kalie, Kendall, Maci, Nick, Tyler, Dallin, Spencer, Aubree and Emily Brown; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services arranged by Bunker’s Garden Chapel, are scheduled for Saturday, May 18, at 9:00 a.m. at the LDS Church at 1100 N. Cooper Rd. Jose (Eddie) Encinas

Jose Edwardo (Eddie) Encinas, age 81 of Chandler, AZ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after losing his battle to cancer. Eddie was born on March 6, 1932 to Manuel and Cecilia Encinas in Chandler, AZ; eldest of 3 children. He graduated from Chandler High School in 1954. Eddie served in the Air Force as a Chaplains Assistant. He traveled the world while in the service but always returned to his hometown of Chandler. He retired after 24 years from Williams AFB in 1978. Eddie was very active in his community as a City Council member for the Chandler Housing & Human Rights Services & Commissions and being a board member for the Chandler Coalition for Civil & Human Rights. The Mayor of Chandler declared March 6th, on Eddie’s 80th birthday, as Eddie Encinas Day for his dedication and commitment to his community. Eddie was a man who truly cared about family and helping those in need. He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel & Cecilia and his granddaughter Amanda Rose. He is survived by his 5 children: Joseph, Crystalina (Tia), Victor (Rebecca), Angel (Tony), Brian (Christine); Brother: Albert; Sister: Clara; 13 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren. A Viewing will be held 9:00 AM, Friday, May 17th at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa; Rosary 11:00 with a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM, Friday, May 17th at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 230 W. Galveston St., Chandler, AZ. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Mesa.

Elmer Minch, 83, passed away on May 6, 2013 in his home in Mesa, Arizona. He was born January 6, 1930 in Gering, Nebraska. He moved his family to Arizona in 1964. He loved working on John Deere farm equipment and began a long career with Arizona Machinery Company. Elmer touched the lives of all who met him. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was actively involved in golf, reading, playing cards and volunteered his time being our all-around handyman. He is survived by his adored wife Dorothy of 61 years, son Jim (wife Sharon), son Gary (partner Susie), daughter Debbie, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, sisters Carolyn Nash, Lydia Becking and brother, Eddy. Memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, May 25th at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Mark’s Sprinzl/Murphy Food Pantry or New Leaf/La Mesita.

She graduated from Mesa High School and met her husband, Durward Black, at a dance at the Mezona during WWII. She will be greatly missed by her brother and sister, Glenn Guthrie and Charmaine Halversen, her sister-in-law Ruth Guthrie, her children, Elizabeth Fuller, Barbara Fox, Duane Black and Kenneth Black and all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be buried next to her husband in North Bend, Nebraska. Services will be Friday, May 17 at 10 am, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1249 S. 48th St., Mesa.

Charles A. Moore, Jr. (84) passed away May 13, 2013 in Mesa, AZ. He was born in Lockesburg, AR to Charles A. Moore Sr. and Annie Hudson Moore. His whole life was full of adventures. He was in trucking—owning, fixing, and driving 18-wheelers – and it was his passion. His hobbies included anything with wheels, camping, ATV riding, airplanes and flying. He lived a very active life filled with family, many relatives and friends. Carolyn Elizabeth Randall (Kleinman), 84 years old, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013. She was born May 4, 1928 in Savannah, GA. Carolyn was an educator for twenty-eight years in the Mesa Public Schools at Webster and Lowell Elementary Schools. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Clinton H. Randall, killed while serving on the aircraft carrier USS Leyte on October 16, 1953. Carolyn is survived by her sons Clinton (Marilou) Randall and Craig Randall, daughter Jalene (Ron) Hartley, sisters Barbara Huish and Mary Naylor, 8 Grandchildren and 16 Great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, May 17th 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way, Mesa.

Funeral services will be held at the LDS Church, 616 S Extension Rd., Mesa on Saturday, May 18th at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the wonderful workers at Heart Prints Group Home for their loving care with special appreciation to Marilyn and Kim Willis. Our gratitude to Reflections Hospice for their nurturing support.

Derek Allen Beach

Derek Allen Beach was born February 29, 1984 in Mesa, Arizona to Roland and Carla Beach. Derek grew up in a busy and eventful household filled with 9 children. Being the second youngest didn’t stop Derek from forging his large personality and ability to make his presence known as soon as he walked into the room. Two weeks after marrying his wife Kaela, Derek was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In July 2009, Derek’s son Camden was born while he endured chemotherapy and a transplant. After many more chemotherapies, radiation treatments, and two bone marrow transplants, Derek always kept a positive attitude and smile on his face and found immense joy in being at home with his family. Derek passed away from complication of his treatments on May 1, 2013 and is survived by his wife Kaela, his son Camden, his parents, and 8 siblings. Derek’s viewing is Friday, May 10th from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N Centennial Way in Mesa. His funeral is Saturday, May 11 at 10 AM at the LDS Chapel, 1111 E Knox Rd in Tempe.
