Frances Anita Howard, 90, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013 in Mesa, AZ. She is survived by 3 of her 6 children, Marsha Eugene Hill, Calvin Bruce Howard, Susan Jane Martin, 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bruce Howard, and children Constance Anita Howard, Robert Mark Howard, and Daniel Edwin Howard. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at 11 AM at the LDS Chapel, 616 S. Extension, Mesa, AZ, with a visitation from 10-10:45 AM. A memorial service will also be held at the LDS Chapel, 4700 Sale Lane, in Lake Charles, LA, Saturday, November 16 at 11 AM. Arrangements by Bunker’s Garden Chapel.

Laurie Diane Stratton, born May 20, 1957, was called home on Monday, November 4, 2013. She is survived by her husband Douglas Stratton, father Dock Taylor, sister Sheri (Hector) Gonzalez, brother Michael (Diana) Taylor, four nephews, one great nephew and a great niece. She is preceded in death by her mother Judith P Taylor. Laurie will always be remembered for her kindness to others, her love of family, music and her love of children. She will be missed by all. Maxwell Dee Jones
1920/10/03 - 2013/10/31

Maxwell Dee Jones, 93, born October 3, 1920, in Blackfoot, ID; died October 31, 2013, in Mesa, AZ. Max was raised in Morgan, UT. During WWII he was the navigator on a B-17, flying 30 missions in Europe, frequently as lead plane, and earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war he earned his accounting degree from Brigham Young University and did graduate work at Northwestern University. He worked for U.S. Steel for 30 years, initially in Utah, then San Francisco, and finally Pittsburgh, PA. He tried retiring, but after a few months he took a job with Utah County and worked for many more years. He married Nita Fern Webster on Sept. 14, 1956, in the Los Angeles LDS temple and had four sons. Max is survived by son Maxwell Stanton (Bonnie) of Kaysville, UT; son Webster Craig (Ivy) of Mesa, AZ; daughter-in-law Michelle Breck of Lorton, VA; and son Bruce Nelson (Agnes) of Salt Lake City, UT. He was preceded in death by his wife Nita and son Michael D. Jones. During his many years Max faithfully served his family and church. He was an avid sports fan with a special love for playing and watching tennis. A viewing will be held Thurs., Nov. 7, 2013, from 9-10 AM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, 85201, followed by graveside services at 11 AM at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 E. Main, Mesa, 85207.

Reed Floyd Mack
1926/10/08 - 2013/10/29

Reed Floyd Mack, age 87, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was born October 8, 1926 in Miami, AZ, the son of Floyd Malone and Cora Larson Mack. He married Phyllis Stapley on December 20, 1950 in the Mesa LDS Temple. Phyllis preceded him in death in 2002. He is survived by his children Delbert (Rebecca) Mack, Tucson, AZ; Cori (Tom) Crockett, Newberg, OR; David (McCaye Christianson) Mack, Salt Lake City; and Michael (Kim Smith) Mack, Salt Lake City, 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and beloved friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11 AM at the Monument Park 2nd Ward building, 1005 S. 20th East. Friends may call Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. A graveside memorial will be held at Mesa City Cemetery, Mesa Arizona, on Tuesday, November 12 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.

Conrad Kay Allen
1932/12/09 - 2013/11/01

Conrad Kay Allen, born December 9, 1932 in Safford, AZ, passed away November 1, 2013 in Gilbert, AZ. He was the son of Orville Allen and Sarah Diantha Curtis of Thatcher, AZ. Conrad married Kay Jean Smith on December 14, 1950 in the Mesa LDS Temple. He served as a Bishop in the LDS Church, and along with his wife served three church missions. He served several times as a Scoutmaster and his five sons all became Eagle Scouts. He owned and operated a General Insurance Agency and was also an award winning professional photographer. Conrad was preceded in death three years ago, by his wife Kay Jean. He is survived by eight children; Roni Bates (Ivan), Chris Allen (Debbie), Noel Allen (Karen), Cory Allen (Cindy), Kevin Allen (Robin), Melodee Jones, Shawn Allen (Susan), and Elizabeth Banks (David). His posterity includes 53 grandchildren (49 survive him), 112 great-grandchildren (111 survive him) and 1 great-great grandchild. A viewing will be held at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ 85201, Friday, November 8th from 6-8 pm. Funeral services are Saturday, November 9th at 10 AM, preceded by a visitation at 9 AM at the LDS Highland Ward, 7145 E. Monterey Ave. Mesa, AZ 85209.

George Kiene
1933/07/11 - 2013/10/29

George Bruce Kiene peacefully passed away October 29, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born July 11, 1933 to Pauline Bruce and Theodore John Kiene in Amarillo, TX. After graduating from Ajo HS in Arizona, he began attending ASU, but soon thereafter enlisted in the US Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict. It was there he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and began a lifetime of faithful service. Re-stationed to San Diego, he met and married his sweetheart for over 56 years, Karen Andersen. George put himself through college and graduated from ASU in 1964 in the field of mathematics. He served a mission for his Church in 2007 and leaves a legacy of 6 children, 27 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. George loved to laugh and was a captivating story teller. He was a trusted confidant who inspired and coached. Most of all, he will be remembered for his genuine love for people – with George you always felt special. George is survived by his wife, Karen, his children Bruce, Mark, Kevin, Leslie (Horne), Janeen (Wright), Nola (Porter) and his best friend and brother Ted. Services will be held Saturday, November 9, at 10am in the LDS chapel, 745 N. Val Vista, Mesa, Az. A viewing will be held Friday, November 8, at the Bunker Mortuary Chapel, 3529 E University Drive from 6-8pm.

Thomas Alva Whipple, 76 passed away peacefully on October 31, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl and his three sons Tom Jr (Kimberly), Rory (Lori) and Burke (Elizabeth). He is also survived by his six step-children: Carrie Walden (Bill), Scott (Jennifer), David (Jamie), Paul, Deanna Chesley (Marc) and Shauna Benson (Chris). Tom is survived by 34 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife Betty, and daughter Roxanne.

He lived most of his life in his beloved state of Arizona. He served Winslow as their mayor for two terms. Throughout his life he was an active scouter. He served as president of the Grand Canyon Council and received the Silver Beaver award. Tom’s career was spent in the retail business. He owned a chain of small family “Whipple

Craig Allen Olson, 65, passed away in his home October 27, 2013, after a valiant fight with cancer. In life and at passing, he was surrounded by his family. Craig was born May 25, 1948, to Calvin & Ruth Olson in Salt Lake City. He is survived by his eternal companion Judy, children Jason & ReeAnn (Roberts) Olson, Mindi & Bryan Bunker, Ariane & Bret Woods, Zachary & Rachael (Searle) Olson, 15 precious grandchildren, his parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Craig taught in the LDS Church Seminaries & Institutes for 36 years, then served a 2 yr mission to BYU Hawaii with Judy. Poole, Velma Sue (Brundrett), “Sue”, 80, of Sun Lakes, AZ died Friday, October 25, 2013. Sue was born in Galveston, TX to Susie Howe and Charles M. Brundrett on July 1, 1933. She lived in Texas until her marriage to James “Jim” Poole in 1957. They lived for a number of years in San Diego, CA, a short time in Louisiana, and back to Southern California before retiring to Sun Lakes in 1994. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother & nephews. She is survived by her husband Jim, children Kelly Bogda (Mark) of Missouri, Jon Poole (Kathleen) of Virginia, and Lisa Stenger (Jeff) of Illinois, her brother Leon Brundrett (Pat) of Texas, and seven grandchildren, Melissa, Kristin, Carly, Kenny, Ricky, Kyle & McKayla. A private burial will be held on October 29, 2013, with a Celebration of Life service at a later date. Dwight August John Kleiber, 66, of Queen Creek, Arizona passed away October 25, 2013. He was born in Marysville, Ohio on Nov. 15 1946. Dwight worked as a veterinary supply salesman for 40 years. He was preceded in death by his father J. Fred and son Douglas. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Eva, mother Anna, sons Gregory and Jason (Stephanie), brother Wayne (Jill), grandson Luke and niece Brooklyn. He will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E University Drive, Mesa, AZ on Wednesday, October 30, 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N Center Street, on October 31 at 10 AM. The family wishes donations in his memory to Hospice of the Valley.

Sherri Lynn Bond

Sherri Lynn Bond, born June 4, 1975 passed away unexpectedly from a blood clot in her lung on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the age of 38. She is survived by her parents Larry and Joetta Johnson Bond, sister Julie (Preston) Scheier, brothers David (Darlene Angle) Bond, Steven (Christina Barnard) Bond, 8 nephews, 6 nieces and many extended family members. Sherri graduated from NAU with a degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Special Ed. She taught for several years and then changed her career. She currently worked at CVS Caremark as a trainer. Sherri served an honorable LDS Mission in Texas, Fort Worth. She served faithfully in the Church as Relief Society President, Teacher in Relief Society, Young Women and Primary along with other callings. Sherri delighted in regular Temple attendance. She was an inspiration to everyone young and old. Her many kind, loving friends have truly blessed her life.

A visitation will be held Friday October 25th from 6 to 8 PM at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E University Drive, Mesa, AZ. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 11 AM with a visitation from 10:00 to 10:45 AM, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 825 S. 32nd St., Mesa, AZ.

Jeanne Wright
1926/01/14 - 2013/10/20

On October 20, 2013, in her 87th year, Jeanne Wright died peacefully in her home from complications due to age. Jeanne was born January 14, 1926 in Mesa, Arizona to Norma Guthrie and John Garnett Nix. She grew up on the N-X Ranch with her brothers and sisters and attended the LDS 2nd Ward in Phoenix.

Her early schooling was at Riverside School, a three-room schoolhouse, and graduated top of her class at age 11 from the 8th grade. She entered Phoenix Union High School at age 11. Despite her young age, Jeanne excelled in all her classes and participated in many extracurricular activities. One of her favorites was the Auditorium Club where her love for plays and musical shows began. During her senior year, her piano-playing talent blossomed, as she worked for Newberry’s in the sheet music department, playing songs for prospective buyers.

Jeanne graduated from PUHS in 1941 and then moved on to Phoenix College and finished her teaching degree at Arizona State College (now ASU). That first year, Jeanne would meet Jack Wright from Mesa, with his ‘now-famous’ smile and after dating a few years, they were married on June 22, 1944 in the LDS Arizona Temple. They were married for 56 years.

Beginning in 1948, Jeanne taught for six years at Mesa Irving and Alma Schools. Years later when people asked, “Were you a dancer?

Charlie, 84, born Dec. 14, 1928, in McNary, AZ, to Roy Nelson and Ellen Freeman Daniel, was called home to his Heavenly Father on Sat., Oct. 19, 2013. He spent his youth in Snowflake, AZ, served in the Navy, and was employed by APS for 50 years. His life of service to others and in numerous LDS Church callings has been a great example to all. He recently celebrated 58 years with his eternal sweetheart, Georgia Marie Dixon. His legacy lives on through his 3 sons, Roy (Deanna), Gene (Julie), and David (Lawanna), 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
